Human Resources Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
Oversee the Human Resources department and staff for TECO-Westinghouse Motor Company (TWMC) and TECO-Westinghouse Motors (Canada) Inc. (TWMI). Provide HR support for TECO-Westinghouse Motor Company S.A. de C.V. (TWMM). Responsible for developing, implementing and coordinating HR strategies, policies and programs covering all human resources practices.
POSITION DUTIES
- Direct the creation and application of human resource policies by formulating, interpreting and recommending HR procedures, preparing and maintaining TWMC and TWMI Employee Handbooks. Includes keeping current on legislative changes and regulations affecting US and Canadian practices or policies.
- Promote staff development and awareness by developing and facilitating in-house management/leadership training programs. Oversee employee off-site training, seminars, and conferences.
- Maintain competitive stance regarding pay and benefits by administering wage and salary policies, setting pay structure(s), monitoring performance appraisals to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization and merit increase programs.
- Supervises the application of established Human Resources policies in employee relations; wage and salary administration; employment; benefits administration; training; EEO/AA; HRIS and safety.
- Plans and schedules work of assigned staff performing all functional areas of Human Resources.
- Manage immigration matters including necessary work visas (H1B, L, E, and TN) and requests for permanent residency. Manage international assignment relocations.
- Performs a leadership role in recruiting, interviews, and selection of employees to fill vacant positions.
- Oversees records of benefits plans participation such as insurance and pension plan, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting.
- Coordinates management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment.
- Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
- Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
- Administers performance review program
- Oversees administration of benefits programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurances, pension plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance.
- Oversees the benefit programs for TWMI Canada.
- Ensure the safety and welfare of employees by overseeing compliance with regulations and laws pertaining to safety and environmental, i.e., OSHA and benefit requirements, i.e. ERISA.
- Manage immigration matters including necessary work visas (H1B, L, E, and TN) and requests for permanent residency. Manage international assignment relocations.
- Prepares annual budget of human resources operations.
- Oversees the preparation of employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducting exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
- Prepares reports and recommends procedures to reduce absenteeism and turnover.
- Represents organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
- Contracts with outside suppliers to provide employee services
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Compliance with applicable Company policies concerning maintaining a drug free workplace is required.
- Compliance with all Company policies is required, including adherence to Company ISO 9001 Standards and compliance with Company Affirmative Action Plan and Company Safety procedures.
- Incorporate the Standards of Excellence as outlined by TWMC (Pride, Desire, Teamwork, Attention to Detail and Follow-through) into daily activities in order to create a Total Quality environment through personal commitment to excellence.
- Other functions as required (non-essential functions).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directly supervises five employees in the HR Department.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- PHR/SPHR
- GPHR certification highly desirable.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Experience Required)
- Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) from four-year college or university in Business Administration or Human Resources; or four to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Broad knowledge and experience in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organizational development, employee relations, and safety.
- Manufacturing experience required.
- Previous experience in international companies required.
- Management experience required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and coaching skills.
- Ability to manage and support remote employees and companies.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
